My videos stopped playing: monthly allowance reached

What happens when this month's included watched minutes run out, and how to keep uploaded videos playing with a spending limit you choose.

When this month's included watched minutes run out, new playback of your uploaded videos pauses until the next month, unless you've chosen to keep videos playing.

This covers uploaded course videos and event replays. Your videos, course text and community stay saved, and learners see a short message instead of the player. The minutes reset at the start of the next calendar month (UTC), and the lesson video panel shows the date.

To keep videos playing past the allowance:

  1. Open Billing.
  2. Find When you reach your included minutes.
  3. Choose Keep videos playing and bill me our video host's cost for the extra.
  4. Set Stop at this amount a month (US$), or choose No monthly limit.
  5. Click Save video settings.

The extra is charged at the per-GB rate shown on that card, plus card processing. Monthly plans get it on the next invoice; annual plans get a separate invoice each month. When the extra reaches your limit, playback pauses again until the reset. Only the site owner can change this setting.

If this didn't work

  • Videos still pause after you saved: the card can show that we're raising your limit with our video host. Until that's confirmed, your old setting stays in effect. This usually takes a few minutes.
  • It says keeping videos playing needs your site's own video library: that library is still being set up for your site. Try again later, or write to us.

Measurement runs daily, so the pause isn't an exact real-time cutoff. Re-uploading or deleting videos doesn't give back minutes already watched. On Studio you can also move to Creator in Billing for 15,000 included minutes a month. There's no prepaid extra-video pack. YouTube and Vimeo embeds keep playing whatever happens.
