Send emails automatically

Email sequences send a series of emails on a delay on every plan; Studio and Creator add automations with conditions and tag steps.

Open Automations and start an email sequence: a series of emails sent in order, with a wait between each.

  1. Open Newsletter, then Automations.
  2. Pick a starter under Start from a recipe, or Blank email sequence.
  3. Give it a Name and choose a Trigger: New subscriber signs up, Tag is added to subscriber, After any purchase or Manual enrollment only.
  4. Write each step's subject and Email body, and set Delay after previous step in hours. Use Add step for more emails.
  5. Click Create sequence. To start it, tick Active (starts enrolling immediately), or click Activate on the list later. It emails people as soon as they match the trigger.
  6. Click Enrollments on the sequence to see who is in it.

On Studio and Creator, New automation opens the automation builder. It adds more triggers (such as Abandoned checkout, Email link clicked and Becomes inactive) and steps like Add tag, Remove tag and Only continue if…. Portfolio runs email sequences only.

If this didn't work

  • Nobody is receiving the emails: check that the sequence shows Active, not Paused, and that your legal name and postal address are filled in on Custom Email. Sequence and automation emails aren't sent without them.
  • Emails stopped partway through the month: sequence emails count toward the same monthly send allowance as newsletters. Waiting steps aren't dropped; they go out once the allowance resets. The Monthly sends meter in the composer shows what's left.

Only confirmed, active subscribers receive automated emails, and anyone who unsubscribes stops getting them.
