Set up a paid community

Create a membership tier, then gate a community space to that tier.

A paid community is two separate settings: a membership tier that people pay for, and a community space that requires that tier.

  1. Open Stripe Connect and click Connect Stripe Account, so members can pay you.
  2. In Members, on the Tiers tab, click New Tier.
  3. Enter a Tier Name and Description, then set the monthly price. Quarterly, yearly, lifetime and other currencies are under More pricing options.
  4. Click Create Tier. If you aren't ready to sell, click Save draft and publish the tier later.
  5. Open Community spaces and click New space.
  6. Give it a Name and choose your tier under Required tier.
  7. Click Save as draft to keep it unpublished while you prepare it. Click Publish space when it's ready.
  8. Check what a signed-out visitor, a free member and a member of the tier can each see.

If this didn't work

  • Nobody can join: the tier is still a draft. A draft tier isn't purchasable. Click the publish button on the tier in the Tiers list to create it in Stripe and open it for sale.
  • Free members can read the space: Required tier is set to Any member. Calling a space "paid" doesn't restrict it; only the required tier does.

Members don't see the community at all if Enable community is off in Site Settings. It is on unless you turned it off.
