Send to only some of my subscribers

Use lists for separate newsletters, tags for labels, and saved segments to narrow who gets an email.

Pick a list, tags or a saved segment under Who gets this when you write a newsletter; set those up first on the Lists and Segments pages.

  1. For a separate newsletter, open Lists and click New list. Each list has its own Sender name, Reply-to and welcome email. Portfolio has 1 list, Studio 3, Creator unlimited.
  2. For labels, click Manage tags on the Newsletter page to create tags, then select subscribers and use Apply tags.
  3. For behaviour-based groups, open Segments, click New segment and add rules such as Opened an email in the last, Bought or Has tag. A subscriber must match every rule.
  4. Click Write newsletter. Under Who gets this, choose the list, then Specific tags if you want them, then an optional Segment.
  5. Check the recipient count before you send.

Filtering the subscriber table doesn't change who receives a composed message; only Who gets this does. Consent, verification, unsubscribe, and suppression rules still apply to every audience.

If this didn't work

  • The count is lower than you expected: unconfirmed, unsubscribed, bounced and suppressed addresses are never sent to, and a segment can only narrow the audience you picked above it.
  • You can't create another list: the page shows Plan limit reached. Reuse an existing list, or move to a plan with more lists in Billing.

One segment can't combine groups with "or". To reach either of two groups, save two segments.
